Farwell Party at the Shire (May 28, 2007)

Every goodbye is a harvesting of memories. And on Sunday afternoon, we attempted to do just that. Several friends showed up in our backyard with bottles of wine to partake in an informal wine tasting BBQ. Along with croquet and painting, we feasted on shish kabob and enjoyed each other's company -Some of us even went surfing that night!

All the preparation throughout the week was worth it. Thanks to all of those that helped out and made it to our party.

Brent and Megan will be leaving to China and S. East Asia for three months this summer. As you know, our family will also be embarking on a big trip. The BBQ was a way to bring people together for a bon voyage.

We feel ultra fortunate to have made such good friends in Santa Cruz. And when it comes down to it, goodbyes are not easy. It is sad to part ways with friends and family. It is hard to accept the loss of proximity. It is hard to leave a community/geography you've grown dear to.

Fortunately, a Dutch proverb alleviates some of the pangs of seperation by saying, "With every goodbye there is the birth of a memory." We will always utilize this philosophy overseas; for memories can be harvested anywhere and anytime in life. We look forward to continually reaping them along our journey.

Much love,

The De1uciens
