More on Bahrain Trip

We took off to the lovely country of Bahrain two weekends ago and had a refreshing escape from the Kingdom. The causeway drive blurred all of the frustrations of living in Saudi into turquoise waters. The 12 mile bridge drive was beautiful. It looked like Greece or the Caribbean. When we arrived, we tackled Seef Mall. It invigorated us to see more Westerners. Even the Muslims in Bahrain seemed friendlier; not all the women were covered up. When we went to the Ritz Carlton, the restaurant there (Trader Vic's) was lined with people of all nationalities. We had lunch surfside with our new friends. (It makes you crack a smile when you see the sheiks drinking from tall Pilsner glasses.)

After lunch and cocktails, we went grocery shopping at an organic market. We stockpiled as many dry goods as possible into the cart. We bought baby spinach and other organic vegetables. Conversely, I bought a slab (I'm now an official 6ac0n smuggler) of salty Oscar-Meyer to spice up my egg breakfasts. Going shopping in Bahrain, makes you realize how far behind the Saudis are with their dietary intake. It is difficult to find healthy food products in this S.A.

Overall, we've come to realize how Bahrain is a necessity -As one guy said, "There is Saudi, and then there is the real world -Bahrain is where you go when you need to see the real world again."
