Scrambled Digest

Quick rants for today. Please excuse my digressions.

• Halloween brought with it cooler, windy weather. Yesterday was for kids: dance, trick or treating. Tonight is for adults: big parties throughout the camp, lots of wicked brews. The Muslim kids on camp enjoyed the surrogate holiday -Women, fully covered, took their kids door to door for candy. It is bizarre how the hardcore American Christians expressed they would not participate in the Halloween holiday; yet, these Muslim families would?!?! Reina made most of my costume -Gandalf. She is a sexy witch. Tomorrow we go to Bahrain for fun! Can't wait to leave the not-so-magic Kingdom :)


• Went surfing again. Weird surfing in the Gulf. A student came out, saw me on the board and I came in to let him ride it. He took some surf lessons with his brothers last summer and his parents want all the boys to keep on surfing. There is something wonderful about living in a small community and seeing your students around. They always wave, smile and yell out your name. Sometimes we race them home on our bikes for lunch. It makes us realize how in the States, even in small towns, it takes a long time to establish a community. Everyone is maxed out of time. The slow pace of life here has its advantages.


• We are pushing forward with our online Masters programs. Education classes are terrible, but the pay increase we stand to receive when we finish will be worth it -The company moves you up to a 30% raise for a Masters.


• Looks like Reina will start in January at the school. Enrollment forecasts point to 50% increase. I don't know where they are going to put all of the students and new teachers. It also looks like I will be moving into the tech coordinator for the school. They train me to use the network, make me the webmaster, etc.
